Royal Mail on Tuesday temporarily suspended access to its online postage and parcel tracking service after some customers were able to see information about other users’ orders, the British company said.
The issue comes a day after Royal Mail’s biggest union rejected a new pay offer in a long-running dispute, and as the company works on a plan to focus on parcels and improve the efficiency in a declining volume of letters.
The problem appears to have started around 13:00 GMT, according to a website monitoring developments, but Royal Mail, owned by International Distributions Services, did not give details of how much customer data could be lost. been compromised or the time it would take to bring the website back online.
“We fully understand and apologize for any inconvenience caused by this. Our engineers are working as hard as possible to get the site back up and running as planned,” he said, adding that the company considers a fix “the most high priority”.
Royal Mail’s ‘click and drop’ service allows customers to pay postage online, print labels and track parcels and items once they have been posted, and is used by private individuals and businesses.
