Swedish mining supplier acquires Sudbury service company


Swedish manufacturer of mining equipment Epiroc acquired Vancouver FVT Research, which has a service shop in Sudbury.

Epiroc, headquartered in Stockholm, announced on September 13 that it has agreed to acquire the business and assets of FVT, a Vancouver-based mining services company specializing in diesel-to-battery conversion kits and rebuilding diesel-powered mining machines into battery-powered electric vehicles.

The value of the acquisition was not disclosed in a press release.

FVT’s service and supply shop is located on Armstrong Street in Sudbury. The company employs 25.

FVT had an existing partnership agreement with Epiroc and was recently part of a successful project to convert an Epiroc Scooptram ST1030 diesel powered loader into a battery electric charge.

In a press release, Epiroc said the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2021.

Earlier this year, Epiroc signed an agreement with Collège Boréal in Sudbury to offer a new program to train students in the maintenance of battery-powered electric mining vehicles.
