Syngenta Group, the agriculture giant owned by Sinochem Holdings, said on Wednesday that its modern agriculture platform (MAP) business has grown into a modern agricultural services platform with the largest scale of services and the fastest growing service network in China.

The online service area exceeds 148 million mu (9.87 million hectares), accounting for around 7% of the national arable land area, Syngenta Group CEO Erik Fyrwald said at a summit on Wednesday. co-organized by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS).

He said that the digital farming system independently built by MAP provides different types of farmers with a digital farming services platform that integrates a number of applications. Farmers can access services such as accurate weather forecasts, satellite remote sensing monitoring of crop growth, and plot visualization management.

The summit launched co-activities, as the two sides will jointly support a number of key projects and joint research to bring together and integrate cutting-edge science and practical innovations in digital villages and smart agriculture sectors in the world. country and abroad.

China is under pressure due to resource and environmental constraints as land and water supplies are limited and information asymmetry remains a bottleneck for industry, including the recent sharp drop in pork prices, Sun Tan, deputy director of CAAS said at the meeting.

Data from the National Bureau of Statistics showed that last year, China produced 669.49 million tonnes of grain, up 5.65 million tonnes, or 0.9 percent from 2019. Production wheat also increased 0.5%, soybean production increased slightly 8.3%, rice production increased 1.1 percent.

China’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs unveiled the country’s rural labor guidelines for 2021 in February, emphasizing efforts to boost rural revitalization and accelerate the modernization of agriculture and rural areas.

The guidelines outlined specific tasks to be accomplished this year, covering areas such as securing agricultural supplies and improving the industry’s use of technology.

Syngenta Group is the first in the global plant protection industry and the third in the seed industry in 2020. In July, it filed for an IPO on the STAR market in Shanghai where it aims to raise 65 billion yuan ($ 10 billion). It would be the largest IPO on the Chinese A-share markets since the Agricultural Bank of China in 2010.
