How to register a tax service on your HMRC Online Services account

When you have registered and obtained the agent code for the service you wish to use, you can then register it on your HMRC online services account.

Once you have registered a tax service, you will need to activate the service before you can transact on behalf of your client.

How to register a service

To register a tax service, you must:

  1. Log in to your HMRC online services account using your Government Gateway user ID and password
  2. Select “Services you can add” from the left menu
  3. Find the service you want in the list and click on ‘Register for service’
  4. Enter your agent code and zip code when prompted

You will then see a confirmation screen, confirming that you have registered a tax service. To activate the tax service, you will need an activation code. You will get it in the post from HMRC and it can take up to 7 days to arrive.

How to activate the service

Once you have received your activation code by mail, you can activate the service. To do this, you must:

  1. Log in to your HMRC online services account using your Government Gateway user ID and password
  2. Select “Services you can add” from the left menu
  3. Find the service you want in the list and click on ‘Activate service’
  4. Enter your activation code when prompted

You will then have access to the tax service and it will be added to your HMRC online services account.

Log in using your Government Gateway user ID and password. If you don’t have one, you can create one from the login page.
