The Halo series may have debuted in 2001 with the original Xbox, but most of its games first released on Xbox 360, where so many of its fans fell in love with the franchise. There are a lot of fond memories of launching one of these games with 360 sound and while they’re all now available on Xbox One and the X | S series, those native 360 ​​games are coming to an end.

343 Industries announced that most online services will be closed for Halo games on Xbox 360 and this was their intention as physical and digital sales of the games have been declining since 2018. The date for these services to close has been set. . for December 2021, but has been revised for January 13, 2022.

Online services that will be affected include matchmaking, file sharing, challenges, MOTD and extras. Service registration and player customization will persist for Halo 3 and Halo 3: ODST, but will be taken offline for Halo Reach and Halo 4.

Matchmaking will remain live for Halo Wars and Halo: Spartan Assault. Halo: CE Anniversary will not be affected except for Halo Reach Firefight crossover content.

With all of the above games available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X | S, there are likely very few gamers still playing them on Xbox 360. That being said, Halo: Master Chief Collection and the Xbox One native versions will have still all of their online services active. However, 360 titles played backwards will be affected.

As much as we loved playing Halo 3 on Xbox 360 in 2007, all good things come to an end. Plus, we’ve got Halo Infinite to look forward to in a few months, so live with the times, Grandpa!
