GFS expands its retail network with the acquisition of a Canadian foodservice company

WYOMING— Gordon Food Service Inc. is about to add new food categories to its offering and expand its network of retailers through an upcoming acquisition.

Late last week, the Wyoming food supplier announced that it had reached a definitive agreement to acquire a family-owned Canadian foodservice company Macgregors Meat & Seafood Ltd.which will operate as a specialized company for GFS once the transaction is completed.

Macgregors maintains partnerships with meat brands such as Niman Ranch, Jail Island Salmon and Certified Angus Beef. The company serves the restaurant, retail and private label segments of the food industry.

“We are delighted to welcome the employees of Macgregors and its brands to the Gordon Food Service family,” GFS President and CEO Rich Wolowski said in a statement. “Macgregors are among the most respected in the market and, like Gordon Food Service, Macgregors operate with a people-oriented culture. We anticipate that our cultural similarities will allow for a smooth transition for our customers and employees. »

Macgregors Chairman and CEO Duncan Macgregor Jr. cited “shared values, vision, passion for the business and transparent opportunities for our people” as reasons why selling to GFS made sense for a company. which dates back to 1834.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed and the transaction is subject to regulatory approval and other closing conditions.

Gordon Food Service serves foodservice operators nationwide while maintaining 170 of its own stores.
