BMC Emphasizes Online Services and Digital Payments to Boost Revenue – The New Indian Express

BHUBANESWAR: With 77% of holding tax received online in the financial year 2021-22, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to focus more on online services and digital payments to increase its revenue. A senior BMC official said it plans to integrate more services into its online platform www.Bhubaneswar.me to increase revenue collection.

The civic body that introduced digital payment on the Smart Janpath section, has decided to consolidate the city’s 32 car parks into this fold for the benefit of vehicle owners. As of this week, he also put his ‘Mo Khata’, organic compost created in microcomposting centers (MCCs), up for sale via Flipkart. A few months ago, it also integrated the temporary land use permission service to citizens online.

The civic body also plans to integrate other payment systems including Konark and Nadankanan ticket reservation facilities for citizens to provide them better service through a single online platform. It will also help improve transparency, the senior official said.

He said that after the integration of online services on Bhubaneswar.me platform through Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited such as kalyan mandaps, water tankers and sump vehicles, there has been a significant improvement collecting city revenue.

The online integration of these services has helped BMC increase its revenue by 50 crore over the past year, the official said. Also, he said more and more people are opting for online payment. Of the 67 crore asset tax collected last year, about 52 crore was received online.
