Getting started with myGovID

Setting up your myGovID is simple and you can use it on a range of online government services.

  • Step 1: Download the myGovID app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Step 2: Enter your contact details including your name, date of birth, and email address.
  • Step 3: Prove who you are by checking your identity documents, such as your Australian driver’s license, passport or health card. Your information is automatically verified against existing government records, for a quick process.
  • Step 4: Increase the strength of your identity at Strong by verifying your photo. You will need an Australian passport and perform a facial check – a unique scan that verifies that you are not just a real person, but the right person checking in in real time.

Director identification number (Director ID)

An administrator identification number (Director ID) is a unique identifier that administrators must request once and will keep forever. The app is free and admins need to apply for their admin ID themselves as they need to verify their identity. No one can apply on their behalf.

If you are interested in becoming a Director or are already one, you will need a Director ID. As recently announced by Minister Hume, you can now apply for a Director’s ID card.

The date on which directors must apply depends on when they first became a director. For a full list of key dates, see Who Should Apply and When.

To apply, you will need to use the myGovID app to log into ABRS online. If you have not yet configured your myGovID, you will need to configure Standard or Strong identity strength to access this service.

Non-digital options are available for directors who cannot meet myGovID eligibility criteria or who have limited digital access, such as some overseas directors or those with accessibility issues.
